Ilana Ozernoy is a writer and Assistant Professor of Journalism at the SUNY Stony Brook School of Journalism, where she is working to establish a center for international reporting in honor of Marie Colvin.
Formerly a foreign correspondent for U.S. News & World Report, she has traveled extensively throughout Africa, Central Asia, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East, including two years in Iraq covering the war. She also worked as a writer for The Atlantic and as a correspondent for Marketplace Radio.
Over the years, Ozernoy’s writing has also appeared in The Guardian, Marie Claire, dispatches, Newsweek, The New Republic and The Boston Globe. She is currently working on a book about Russia.
